FIDE World Cup Chess Final: Praggnanandhaa and Magnus Carlsen Clash for the Crown

 

The final match of the FIDE World Cup 2023, a chess tournament, is being played between Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa and the world’s number one player, Magnus Carlsen. The second round of the final match between the two players also ended in a draw. On the second day of the final, R Praggnanandhaa managed to hold the world number 1 to a draw by playing with black pieces in 30 moves.

The final showdown of the tournament will take place on August 24th. The 18-year-old Indian Grandmaster has displayed an impressive performance against more experienced and higher-ranked players. In the previous round, R Praggnanandhaa played with white pieces in the first round and agreed to a draw after 35 moves against his opponent.

Reaching the final by defeating the world’s number 3 player

In the semifinals, R Praggnanandhaa secured his place in the final by defeating the world’s third-ranked player, Fabiano Caruana, with a score of 3.5-2.5. He made a comeback and secured a spot in the final. After Viswanathan Anand, Praggnanandhaa is only the second Indian player to reach the World Cup final. He has also qualified for the Candidates Tournament in 2024. Praggnanandhaa earned the Grandmaster title in 2022. He has previously won the World Youth Chess Championship Under-8 title in 2013, achieved the FIDE Master title at the age of seven, and won the Under-10 title in 2015. R Praggnanandhaa also won the Grandmaster title in the year 2022.
